Theodore Roosevlet was in Africa at the start of the Ballinger-Pinchot Affair taking a break after his time as President.
He was the President from 1901 until 1908 and decided not to run again so he chose his successor, William Taft for the
Republican nominee. While President, Roosevelt got very involved with cases of monopolies and started "trust busting." He
was an environmentalist who supported conservation of land.
